PALEMBANG - The Palembang City Government, South Sumatra conducted a feasibility test for school buildings to ensure the safety and comfort of students and teachers in carrying out teaching and learning activities. "The feasibility test was initiated in 200 elementary and 60 junior high schools which were the responsibility of the city government," said Deputy Mayor of Palembang Fitrianti Agustinda in Palembang as reported by Antara, Thursday, July 7. He stated that he did not want to repeat the incident of a school building in Palembang belonging to the Ulil Albab Foundation on Jalan Sematang Lorong Lumban Meranti, Sako Village, Sako District, Palembang City in early July 2022. The incident, he said, became a valuable lesson. For this reason, it is necessary to anticipate by conducting a feasibility test of the school building. "To conduct a feasibility test for the school building, I ask the Palembang City Education Office to involve a team of experts from Sriwijaya University," he said. His party is also trying to repair classrooms or elementary and junior high school levels spread across 18 sub-districts in the local city. The repair of school buildings will continue to be carried out in stages by conducting a priority scale for schools that are in poor condition for teaching and learning activities. "The improvement of the school building is a concern in the activities of this city development project because it is impossible to print quality human resources if not supported by adequate educational facilities," said Fitrianti.
