Police Persecuted Student In Kampung Melayu Named As Suspect

JAKARTA - The Central Jakarta Metro Police's Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) has finally named HFR (23) a student who persecuted the police as a suspect.

HFR was charged with multiple layers of articles for resisting officers because he did not accept being reprimanded while fighting traffic under the Kampung Melayu Flyover, Jatinegara, East Jakarta.

"Yes, we have (became a suspect)," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the East Jakarta Metro Police AKBP Ahsanul Muqaffi, Friday, July 1.

Ahsanul said, HFR was subject to Articles 212 and 213 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) regarding fighting officers.

"Now the person concerned is being held in the detention house of the East Jakarta Police Headquarters," he said.

Previously, Ahsanul said that the assault on Insp. RM, a police officer who was the victim, occurred at around 07.30 western Indonesia time, starting when the perpetrator riding a motorbike came from the direction of Jatinegara towards Tebet.

At that time, an officer was controlling traffic in the Kampung Melayu Bus Terminal area

"The perpetrator rode a motorcycle from the direction of Jatinegara to Tebet against the current. After that, the perpetrator was reprimanded by officers to turn around," Ahsanul told reporters, Thursday, June 30.

However, the perpetrator continued to fight back by crashing his motorbike into the officer. Then the officer advised and took the perpetrator's motorbike key, asking the perpetrator to sit down and calm down.

"However, the perpetrator resisted by hitting the officer with his right hand once until it hit his right cheek and right lip," he said.

Then the perpetrator bit the officer's right wrist once. Then the officer's hand bled.

HFR is also known to have tried to seize Insp. RM's firearm.

"That's right, the perpetrator tried to seize the officer's (police) service weapon but to no avail," he said.
