Puan Says Several Political Parties Want Sowan To Join PDIP

JAKARTA - The chairman of the PDI-P (PDIP) Puan Maharani said there were a number of political parties that wanted to meet. However, he did not specify which party.

"There have been several (parties, ed). I and the secretary general have been asked several times when the time is right," Puan told reporters in Jakarta, quoted on Friday, June 24.

PDIP, he continued, had not held meetings with other parties because the COVID-19 pandemic had not been controlled. Not only that, PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri was also unable to leave the house.

The reason Megawati could not leave the house was because Puan had forbidden her.

"Last time, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting had not yet opened," said Puan.

"Because yes, it's COVID and even my mother always says I'm not going anywhere," he added.

However, because the pandemic has now slowed, PDIP will start exploring with political parties. "In the future, God willing, COVID-19 will lead us to explore this meeting," he said.

In addition, Puan admitted that Megawati had been asked to conduct an assessment with other political parties. Including through the parliamentary channel where he served as Chairman of the DPR RI.

"I was asked by Mrs. Ketum as chairman of the DPR to participate in exploring cooperation, there is a relationship," he said.

Regarding the request, Puan said that this would be implemented after the second National Working Meeting officially closed on Thursday, June 23 with a number of recommendations. He ensured that PDIP would move maximally to cooperate.

"Of course we will explore cooperation with all existing parties, so it's not because the PDIP has not met, has not been in touch, then has not approached it, it is considered that the PDIP does not want to cooperate," he concluded.
