JAKARTA - The West Jakarta City Government (Jakbar City Government) confirmed the existence of a circular letter from the residents of Kebon Jeruk to the cat lover community not to feed stray cats in the area.
"Yes, it is true that there is such information," said the Kebon Jeruk sub-district head, Saumun, quoting Antara, Tuesday, June 21.
Previously, the circular was also viral on social media after being uploaded to the Instagram account @info.jakartabarat.
Saumun said the incident began when a group of people belonging to a cat lover community gave food to stray cats in the Green Garden Housing.
The activity was carried out repeatedly so that it invited other stray cats to come.
Residents also feel disturbed because the rest of the cat's food is considered polluting the environment.
"Now there is food residue and dirt littering the road, if this continues, the wild cat population will increase and the environment will also be considered dirty," explained Saumun.
Because of this, residents living in the RW 03 area finally made a circular to prohibit feeding stray cats.
Saumun continued that the cat community along with the head of the Kedoya Utara village, officers from the West Jakarta Marine and Agricultural Food Security Service (KPKP) and residents will mediate on Friday this week.
"There will be mediation between the lurah, Kasatpel KPKP, the community and residents on Friday at the lurah's office," said Saumun.
Saumun hopes that this mediation can produce a good solution for the residents and the cat lover community.
