Head of Basarnas Kendari Aris Sofingi said the victim was found dead by another fisherman from Kaledupa District, Wakatobi after entering three days of search operations.
"The joint SAR team received information from fisherman Bajo Kaledupa at around 08.00 WITA who reported finding the victim. The joint SAR team then headed to the location where the victim was found. The victim was found dead," he said as quoted by Antara, Monday, June 20.
He conveyed that the victim was found in the waters around Kaledupa by Bajo fishermen at a distance of about 19.36 nautical miles south of the last location where the victim was reported missing.
"At 11.45 WITA the victim was successfully evacuated by the joint SAR Team, which was then handed over to the victim's family," said Aris.
The evacuation of elderly fishermen who were residents of Waetuno Village, Wangi-Wangi Sub-district involved joint personnel from the Wakatobi SAR Post, Wakatobi Navy Post, Wakatobi Polair, Wanci Rangers, Waelumu Community Dive, local fishermen and the victim's families using Basarnas rubber boats and fishing boats.
"By handing over the victim to the family, the search and rescue operation for the victim is declared complete and closed," he said.
