JAKARTA - The Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) has confirmed that it will not support DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan as a presidential candidate in the 2024 general election (Pemilu).

PSI Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Grace Natalie, explained the reason her party did not vote for Anies. This is because Anies is considered not in line with PSI principles.

"In this regard, it is very clear that PSI will not support Mas Anies in the 2024 presidential election. We firmly adhere to the principles of anti-intolerance and anti-corruption. So, it is impossible for us to support candidates who have problems with two or one of these principles," he said in a statement. official statement, Sunday, June 19.

For PSI, said Grace, politics is not just about winning and gaining power. However, Grace continued, politics is about the struggle for principles.

"The principle must be enforced as well as possible. PSI refuses to be pragmatic and opportunist," he said.

In addition, Grace explained that in the results of the PSI grassroots screening, Anies was not included in the nine names worthy of being Jokowi's successor.

"The nine names from the selection of PSI friends in the area were included in the PSI People's Consultation. Mas Anies' name was not there," he said.

Previously, it was reported that in the latest survey by Poltraking Indonesia, DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan took the second position as the most widely known presidential candidate (Capres) with 70.3 percent gain. Meanwhile, the general chairman of the Gerindra Party, Prabowo Subianto, is called the most well-known presidential candidate to the public, which is 81.2 percent.

Not only that, Anies is also in the top five in the category of public-favored figures. Anies is in the top four with 49.4 percent. The position of the former Minister of Education and Culture is under Ganjar Pranowo 54.2 percent.
