GARUT - A total of 13,330 head of livestock in Garut are recommended to be injected with oral and nail disease vaccine (PMK).

Head of the Garut Regency Fisheries and Livestock Service, Sofyan Yani, said that his party proposed the number of livestock that would receive the vaccine and at the same time submitted a dose request to the central government.

"Still waiting for distribution from the center, Garut proposes for 13,330 heads, priority for dairy cattle," said Sofyan in Garut, Friday, June 17.

He said that the results of the report from the technical team of animal health in the field had provided animal health services in the form of treatment for FMD symptomatic livestock and supportive livestock for asymptomatic livestock with a total of 4,602 livestock.

In addition to treatment, he said, his staff has also submitted a PMK vaccine to the central government, which he hopes will reach Garut as soon as possible so that vaccination of livestock can be carried out to prevent the spread of the FMD outbreak.

"This vaccination is very important considering that FMD continues to spread until most of the livestock in Garut have been exposed," said Sofyan.

He conveyed the PMK vaccine proposal to the center in accordance with the population of livestock, especially dairy cows in Garut.

While waiting for the PMK vaccine to arrive, he said, his party will treat livestock that are sick due to contracting PMK.

"We will continue to take treatment as long as there is no vaccine," he said.

He revealed that the stock of medicines to treat livestock infected with FMD remains at 2,500 doses, and will continue to run low because they are used every day so that livestock can return to health.

"If you have not been vaccinated, the need for drugs will continue to grow, so vaccination must be carried out immediately," he said.

The results of the report from the animal health team recorded that 1,429 cattle recovered or improved conditions after treatment, and 51 cattle with FMD symptoms died.
