DKI COVID-19 Cases Rise, Deputy Governor: Used Nursing Beds Are Still Low

JAKARTA - The number of COVID-19 cases in Jakarta has increased again, after previously declining for the past two months. Then, at this time Jakarta has also been recorded as having 4 cases of subvariant Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 which are considered to have increased in cases in several countries.

However, Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Ahmad Riza Patria, emphasized that the occupancy rate for COVID-19 treatment beds was still low.

"Indeed there is an increase (cases). If the data on beds (treatment), of the 3,888 provided, 184 beds are used or 5 percent occupied. Likewise for the ICU, of the 626 prepared, 32 or 5 percent are used. So, it's still low", said Riza at DKI City Hall, Thursday, June 16.

Regarding the increase in cases that began to occur since the beginning of last June, Riza views that this is due to the impact of the Lebaran holiday, the relaxation of activities, and the community's neglect of implementing health protocols.

"For this reason, we invite the people of Jakarta to return to discipline and be responsible for paying attention to health protocols", he said.

"Even if the Omicron subvariant is not as dangerous or as dangerous as Delta, we should not take it lightly. Especially for the elderly or comorbid, we ask for attention", he continued.

On the other hand, the former member of the Indonesian House of Representatives emphasized that the DKI Provincial Government has prepared additional facilities and infrastructure such as health workers and a COVID-19 examination laboratory.

As is known, as of yesterday, it was recorded that Jakarta had the addition of 730 new cases with active cases increasing by 575 cases to 3,282 cases who are still being treated or undergoing isolation.

Meanwhile, currently, there are 1,225,114 positive cases in Jakarta, with a cure rate of 98.5 percent and a death rate of 1.2 percent. Meanwhile, the percentage of positive cases or the positivity rate over the past week was 5.7 percent.
