President Jokowi Asks Organizers To Maintain Morale For The 2024 Election

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo has advised election organizers, namely the KPU, Bawaslu, and the Honorary Council for General Election Organizers/DKPP, to really maintain and improve the morality of the 2024 Election.

The President's message was conveyed by the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, to the election organizers who began to carry out the 2024 election stages on June 14, 2022.

"The President emphasized that the election organizers really maintain and improve the morality of the general election and local elections simultaneously," said Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, June 14.

Indonesia, he said, should be the world's reference in organizing elections. Therefore, encouraging high voter participation, including providing massive political education.

"In the sense that people understand about their rights in elections," he said.

The President, continued Tito, also asked the organizers to ensure accountable election management and keep the elections peaceful so that there are no serious problems in the health sector, such as the deaths of officers in the field in the past.

The President also reminded the importance of being aware of technical issues that could become political problems that affect the quality of elections.

"We need to learn from the experience of previous elections and regional elections, we will make improvements from the technical management aspect," he said.

Tito then gave examples of improving the quality of election data, the permanent voter list (DPT), KPUD work management to technical vote recapitulation, strengthening the voter registration system, political party verification system, recapitulation system, and logistics information system.

"Also make sure that the election costs are carried out efficiently. The President also invites the KPU to develop a campaign model that is more qualified, a campaign that reduces the mobilization of people by utilizing information technology," said Tito.

This, he continued, is so that the campaign can run effectively, reducing friction in the field, including the practice of money politics.

It was also mentioned that the efficient campaign model had been carried out in the 2020 Simultaneous Regional Head Elections.

"As many as 270 regions are in the midst of the peak of the pandemic, we have shown that we are able to carry out it smoothly without an explosion in the number of COVID-19, and it is more effective than mobilization," he said.
