JAKARTA - Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said the progress of the construction of the Sanur Port has reached more than 80 percent. This port, continued Budi, is targeted to operate in September 2022.

"When this is completed, passengers do not need to enter the water again because there is already a pier. This is an extraordinary tourism potential. We hope this can be part of the support for the G20 Summit in Bali," he said in an official statement, quoted on Sunday, June 5 .

Budi also said that the design of the Sanur Port passenger terminal building itself was in collaboration with local Balinese architects. In the building, the architecture and nuances of Balinese culture are very strong and interesting.

"This port will become a connectivity point for several other islands such as Nusa Penida, and will also add to the tourist attraction," he said.

In every transportation infrastructure development carried out, Budi said he wanted to ensure that the results could be directly felt by the community.

"Every development must "drift" or the benefits can be felt directly. At first the port was only modest, now we are making it more modern and perfect to make it easier for the community," he said.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Bali, I Wayan Koster, said that his party continues to monitor the development process to ensure that it goes well and according to plan.

He also hopes that in the future President Joko Widodo or Jokowi can inaugurate the operation of the Sanur Port along with two other ports, namely the Bias Munjul Port in Nusa Ceningan and the Sampalan Port in Nusa Penida.

"The existence of these three ports is expected to become a new economic center in Bali and have a positive impact on the economy of the people of Bali and its surroundings," he said.

The Ministry of Transportation has started the construction of the Sanur Port since December 2020 which includes consulting service work and (physical) construction work. The development is carried out in the 2020-2022 multi-year budget period, sourced from the Ministry of Transportation's APBN with a total budget of IDR 398 billion.

In addition to Sanur Port, the Ministry of Transportation is also building two other ports, namely Bias Munjul and Sampalan, to connect the area known as the Golden Triangle, namely Sanur, Nusa Penida, and Nusa Ceningan.

Previously, these three ports did not have docks, so passengers getting on and off the ship had to go down to the water in wet conditions. With the construction of the pier, passenger terminal and other facilities, it is expected to increase the safety and comfort of the passengers.
