DPRA Proposes Dismissal Of Aceh Governor Nova Iriansyah To President Jokowi

BANDA ACEH - The Aceh House of Representatives (DPRA) has officially proposed the dismissal of Nova Iriansyah as Governor of Aceh for the 2017-2022 period to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) through the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri).

"Today, Friday, June 3, 2022, through the plenary meeting of the Aceh DPR, we officially announce the proposal to dismiss Nova Iriansyah from his position as Aceh Governor for the 2017-2022 period," said DPRA Chairman Saiful Bahri, in Banda Aceh, as reported by Antara, Friday, June 3.

The proposal was submitted in the 2022 DPRA plenary session, with the agenda of submitting the announcement of the proposal for the dismissal of the Aceh Governor, the submission of the DPRA's recommendations for the Aceh Governor's Accountability Report (LKPJ) in 2021, and the closing of the first session of the DPRA in 2022.

According to Saiful Bahri, the proposed dismissal of the Aceh Governor is in accordance with a letter from the Minister of Home Affairs Number 131/2118/Otda dated March 24, 2022, regarding the proposal to dismiss regional heads and deputy regional heads whose terms of office expire this year.

Therefore, the Minister of Home Affairs requests the leadership of the DPRD to propose the dismissal of the governor and/or deputy governor to the President through the Minister of Home Affairs, by attaching the minutes of the plenary session of the Provincial DPRD regarding the announcement of the proposed dismissal of the governor and deputy governor.

Nova Iriansyah's term as Governor of Aceh will end on July 5, 2022.

"The proposal for dismissal is submitted to the Minister of Home Affairs at the latest 30 days before the end of the governor's and/or deputy governor's term of office," said Saiful Bahri.

"Then, we will forward the proposal to dismiss the regional head in a plenary meeting to the Minister of Home Affairs to be followed up in accordance with statutory regulations," he said.

Nova Iriansyah was sworn in as the Governor of Aceh on Thursday, November 5, 2020, replacing Irwandi Yusuf who was caught in a corruption case.

Previously, the couple Irwandi Yusuf and Nova Iriansyah were elected as Governor and Deputy Governor of Aceh in the 2017 Pilkada.

After Irwandi Yusuf was caught in a corruption case, Nova Iriansyah as Deputy Governor immediately continued the wheels of government as acting governor and later became the definitive governor for the remainder of his term of office.
