JAKARTA - Sweden will provide Ukraine with more economic aid and military equipment, including anti-ship missiles, rifles, and anti-tank weapons, Finance Minister Mikael Damberg and Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist said Thursday.

"The proposal submitted (to parliament) means that the funds allocated to the central government budget will increase by 1 billion Swedish krona (IDR 1,476,867,449,000) by 2022," the Nordic country's Ministry of Finance said in a statement.

"In solidarity with Ukraine, and as part of the international response to Russia's actions, the government sees the continuing need to support Ukraine," the statement continued.

Previously, Sweden announced plans to send military equipment including 5,000 anti-tank guns, helmets, and body armor to Ukraine in February. The following month, they announced they would send another 5,000 anti-tank guns.

It is known, Ukraine continues to receive weapons support from various Western countries. Recently, US President Joe Biden announced new military aid to Ukraine worth around IDR 10 trillion, saying his country will continue to help Kyiv defend itself.

The newly announced US$700 million package includes a high-mobility artillery rocket system, which can accurately hit targets up to 80 km (50 miles) away.

Earlier, President Biden announced plans to deliver the precision HIMARS rocket system to Ukraine, after receiving assurances from Kyiv that it would not use it to hit targets inside Russian territory. President Biden imposed the condition to try to avoid an escalation of the Ukraine war.
