JAKARTA - Indonesian President Joko Widodo was awarded the traditional title of Mosalaki Ulu Beu Eko Bewa during a visit to the Ende Weaving House after leading the Pancasila Birthday Commemoration Ceremony, Ende Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, Wednesday 1 June.

The traditional title of Mosalaki Ulu Beu Eko Bewa has the meaning of regional leader throughout Indonesia from Sabang to Merauke.

As explained by the Press Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat, the President accompanied by First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo arrived at the Ende Weaving House and was greeted by Woge Dance.

In the Woge Dance, the dancers carry spears and machetes as symbols of war victory. The dancers are also accompanied by the art of Nggo Lamba music which is usually played to welcome guests and traditional events.

Besides being greeted by Woge Dance, the President and Iriana were also greeted with traditional greetings by culturalist Albertus Bisa. The President also received a traditional dress in the form of a Rembi, which is a traditional bag used by Mosalaki or traditional leaders to put some traditional objects.

After receiving the traditional title, the President and Mrs. Iriana also witnessed the Regent of Ende circling Tubu Kanga (traditional tomb) four times, which means oneness with nature, namely earth, water, fire, and wind.

The President and Iriana also took the time to see and greet the weaving craftsmen who were weaving.

The President expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome given by the people of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), especially the people of Ende, during his visit this time.

"I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the people of NTT, especially the people of Ende, who have received me, Mrs. Iriana, and the entire entourage from the beginning until now and have been warmly received," said the President, quoted by Antara.

The President believes that the warmth of the Ende people has also been felt by the first president of Indonesia, Bung Karno, so that it can give birth to thoughts and reflections on Pancasila.

"This is what I think is why Bung Karno had thoughts and reflections on Pancasila starting from Ende because I felt he was in a warm community who was always close to the leader," he said.

Also accompanying the President and Mrs. Iriana in the event were the Chairperson of the MPR RI Bambang Soesatyo, the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Anwar Usman, the Governor of East Nusa Tenggara Viktor Laiskodat, and the Regent of Ende Djafar Achmad.
