112 Migrant Workers Return To Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara During January-April 2022

MATARAM - The Manpower Office of Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) recorded the repatriation of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) from January-April 2022 as many as 112 people.

"They go home, usually because their contracts have expired. No one has been sent home because of problems," said Head of the Mataram City Manpower Service (Disnaker) H Rudi Suryawan in Mataram, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, May 31.

According to him, so far there have been almost no repatriations of PMIs with problems in Mataram because on average, PMIs from Mataram City depart from the legal route.

Even to anticipate the existence of illegal PMI, his party made prevention efforts during departure in collaboration with a number of related parties.

PMI candidates who depart illegally are usually lured by brokers and they are often arrested outside Java because the documents are incomplete.

"If that's the case, we will make a report and then return it to the family through the kelurahan apparatus," he said.

On the other hand, his party is strengthening the role of environmental heads and village heads when providing recommendations to PMI to prevent illegal PMI.

"The role of the neighborhood head and the lurah in preventing illegal PMI is very important, because they are the ones who know exactly the condition of the residents who will work as PMI," he said.

The role and supervision of the environmental head and the lurah can be carried out from the process of making passports for PMI candidates which is carried out in stages starting from the environmental level.

That is, when there are residents who want to ask for recommendations for making passports as candidates for PMI, environmental officials must ensure that their citizens will depart from the official route.

"If not, it is better to approach and socialize and direct citizens to become PMI through official channels to avoid unwanted things," he said.
