Want To Be An Election Officer? KPU Requires Maximum Age Limit Of 50 Years

JAKARTA - Chairman of the General Elections Commission (KPU) Hasyim Asy'ari mentioned that one of the requirements that must be met to become an election officer in 2024, such as the sub-district election committee (PPK), the voting committee (PPS), and the voting group (KPPS).

One of the conditions in order to become an ad hoc election body is the age limit with a maximum of 50 years. This also applies to the selection process for provincial and district/city KPU members.

"Later on, the plan is to recruit ad hoc bodies, starting from the PPK to KPPS levels, as well as the provincial KPU, regency/city KPU, as recommended by the Ministry of Health in the 2020 regional election yesterday, the maximum age is 50 years, because that is the age that is considered productive," said Hasyim at the office. Hasyim said that the determination of the maximum limit after the election officers was motivated by the experience of organizing the 2019 Election. In which, at least 894 officers died and 5,175 officers were sick.

At that time, academics were investigating the cause of the illness and death of a number of KPPS officers. As a result, they died because their condition was not healthy. Then, some of them also have a history of disease.

"The tendency of our brothers who died over 50 years old to have comorbid diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, heart attack," said Hasyim.

"So, we ask the government, especially the regional government to facilitate it, because after all our friends who are ad hoc bodies are part of the residents of their respective regional governments," he continued.

In addition, the KPU also requires that the ad hoc body for the 2024 General Election must have vaccinated at least two doses or the complete dose.

Meanwhile, the KPU allocated a budget of Rp. 34.4 trillion or 44.93 percent of the total 2024 election budget for honorariums, formation and operations of ad hoc bodies or election officials.

If detailed, election officers such as KPPS, PPS, and PPK will receive an honorarium of Rp. 1.5 million for each person. This figure has tripled compared to the 2019 election of Rp. 500,000.
