Kadin Chairman Rosan Roeslani: Job Creation Law Is Important To Pursue Vietnam, Malaysia And Thailand

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) revealed the presence of the Omnibus Law on the Work Creation Law during the COVID-19 pandemic so that Indonesia can seize and seize investment opportunities in the ASEAN region for the creation of domestic jobs.

"In fact, with the existence of the Omnibus Law during the COVID-19 era, it is more important for Indonesia to compete more with neighboring countries, in increasing investment which ultimately leads to job creation. According to Rosan, many parties have questioned why during the pandemic we should discuss the Omnibus Law, isn't it better to focus on COVID-19 instead.

"But we have to see it like this, that the discussion of the Omnibus Law itself was not carried out in a matter of one or two months. This law has been discussed since February and has only been completed now," he said.

Other countries have carried out structural reforms, such as Malaysia and Vietnam since 2010, then Thailand in 2015. If Indonesia does not carry out these structural reforms when the pandemic ends, then the story will be the same as before where foreign investors will return to invest in countries like Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand.

Even though at this time, despite the Covid-19 era, countries such as the United States and Europe have notified their companies in China to leave the country. Japan has even given incentives to its companies to leave China, because they do not want to concentrate their global supply chain in China.

Based on a survey from several organizations or institutions, investors or companies that left China are eyeing or paying attention to ASEAN countries.

"What does that mean? It means that we are also competing with our neighboring countries. If we do not carry out this structural reform, we will be left behind again," said the Chairman of Kadin.

Kadin always draws a decision if the government policy is ultimately to create jobs, it must be fully supported and assisted.

"Thus the existing challenges are such as unemployment, the hope is that with a structural reform policy carried out by the government it is hoped that it can encourage us to be better in the investment climate, ease of doing business, increase productivity, and of course hope that job creation is our challenge in the future. He also added that regarding the Omnibus Law, indeed the biggest challenge now is the socialization because if you look at the current socialization regarding the Omnibus Law Ciptaker, there are a lot of hoaxes or misleading news.
