Monkeypox Enters Denmark, Found In Adult Men Who Just Traveled To Spain

JAKARTA - Danish authorities found the first case of monkeypox infection in an adult man who had recently traveled to Spain.

"Health authorities do not predict a wide spread of infection in Denmark, but we are following the situation closely to anticipate a possible developing infection situation," Health Minister Magnus Heunicke said in a statement.

The patient is currently in isolation and authorities are in constant contact with people who had close contact with the patient.

A patient with monkeypox infection was also confirmed in the Netherlands for the first time, the government health agency RIVM said Friday, May 20.

"After the weekend, we will provide updates on any new infections that have been identified," RIVM said in a statement.

More than 100 cases of monkeypox -- a viral infection common in central and western Africa -- were reported in Europe last week.
