West Sulawesi Governor Asks OPD To Be Creative In Handling Garbage At Polewali Mandar

MAMUJU - Acting Governor of West Sulawesi Akmal Malik asked regional apparatus organizations (OPD) to be creative in dealing with waste problems in Polewali Mandar Regency (Polman).

"OPD must be creative in formulating development programs, namely in dealing with waste problems, because waste can have economic value," said Akmal Malik in Mamuju, Sunday, May 22.

He said that the Environmental Service of the Province of West Sulawesi was asked to be able to overcome the waste problem that the community in Polman had complained about so far.

"For example, Banyumas Regency or other regions in Indonesia have been able to process their waste properly so that it can have economic value and advance the region," he said as quoted by Antara.

He hopes that the waste problem in Polman or the entire West Sulawesi region can be handled properly, so that it will no longer be a public complaint like so far.

Previously, students in Polman Regency asked the officials of the Governor of West Sulawesi to address the waste problem, which the local government had not been able to handle so far.

The waste problem is considered to have disrupted community activities so a solution must be given by the government in West Sulawesi.

Head of the Environment Agency, Aco Takdir, said the problem had caused environmental pollution because the government was unable to solve it at the district level.

"The problem has indeed polluted the environment, which must be given a solution and it is the government's task," he said.

He said, in addition to the waste problem, another environmental problem in West Sulawesi is that there are still many critical lands that damage forests and water sources.

In addition, there is a lot of damage to ecosystems on the coast and small islands, as well as the low participation of the community in environmental management, then the monitoring and enforcement of environmental laws has not been effective.
