The Appearance Of The Crowded May Day Fiesta Mass On Gatot Subroto Street Leads To The Front Of The DPR Building

JAKARTA - By midday, thousands of people from a combination of organizations and labor unions had moved from Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) to the front yard of the House of Representatives (DPR) Building, Senayan, Jakarta to continue their demonstration.

The action, entitled May Day Fiesta, was held to commemorate International Labor Day or May Day, last Saturday, May 14, which was quiet because it coincided with Eid al-Fitr 2022.

In the movement from GBK to the front of the Indonesian House of Representatives Building, it is estimated that there are around 50 thousand people present. The crowd was dominated by orange T-shirts with the words “Labor Party” written on them.

This delivery action is a continuation of the action that was held the following morning at GBK. The action is known to continue afternoon or around 13.00 WIB.

"We will continue afternoon, there will be a pause after this morning at GBK, at 13.00 we will continue the action in front of the Indonesian House of Representatives Building", said Mahfud, one of the participants in the action.

From the observations of the VOI team in the field, the masses were also seen moving to carry various flags from their respective organizations or labor unions. The mass workers' movement was led by a commando car.

In this momentum, the Labor Party and the Indonesian Labor Movement will voice 18 demands. The full demands voiced in the activities of the Labor Party and the Indonesian Labor Movement:

1. Reject the Omnibus law of the Job Creation Law;

2. Lower prices for basic commodities (cooking oil, meat, flour, eggs, etc.), fuel, and gas;

3. Pass the PPRT Bill, reject the revision of the PPP Law, reject the revision of the SP/SB Law;

4. Reject low wages;

5. Remove outsourcing;

6. Reject the increase in VAT tax;

7. Validate the RPP for the Protection of ABK and Migrant Workers;

8. Refuse to reduce PBI Health Insurance participants;

9. Realize food sovereignty and agrarian reform;

10. Stop criminalizing farmers;

11. Low tuition fees and free 15 years of compulsory education;

12. Appoint teachers and honorary staff to become civil servants;

13. Empowerment of the informal sector;

14. Ratification of ILO Conversion No. 190 on the Elimination of Violence and Harassment in the World of Work;

15. Ojol drivers are workers, not partners whose work relationship is not clear;

16. Hold elections on February 14, 2024, in a fair manner and without money politics;

17. Fair redistribution of wealth by adding social security programs (food security, housing, unemployment, education, and clean water); and

18. No one should go hungry in a rich land.
