Depok City Government Opens New Cemetery Land

DEPOK - The Department of Housing and Settlements (Disrumkim) of Depok City, West Java, has opened a new land for a cemetery located in Sawangan Village and is the 14th land managed by the Depok City Government.

"We have cleared the TPU area in the Sawangan area and God willing, it can be used this year. The TPU has a capacity of 14,000 graves," said Head of Disrumkim Depok City Dudi Mi'raz quoted by Antara, Thursday, May 12.

Dudi explained, the land which has an area of four hectares is in the area of Telaga Golf Sawangan. However, this burial place will later be opened to all residents of Depok City.

"We opened this burial ground because it has become an asset that was handed over to the City Government. This is also a need of local residents," he explained.

Dudi said the land provided was approximately four hectares. However, only one hectare is being matured.

“One hectare can accommodate around 3,500 burrows. So if we have four hectares, then 14,000 graves can be dug. The other three hectares must have land clearing. Because the soil type is uneven. In terms of capacity, we think it is still sufficient and safe for the residents of Depok City," he said.

Previously there was pressure from the residents of Telaga Golf to use this land as a TPU. Incidentally, this land is a social facility (Fasos) and public facility (Fasum) for Telaga Golf residents which has been handed over to the assets of the Regional Finance Agency (BKD).

Dudi said that although the tomb's land area is four hectares, only 1 hectare is currently being matured and will be used this year.

"God willing, it can be used this year. Currently it is still in the stage of maturation or land leveling. Hopefully it can be completed soon, so that it can be used," he said.
