Paid Rp4 Million For Online Gambling Site Promotion, Palembang Ubey Celebrity Threatened 6 Years Fine Rp1 Billion

PELAMBANG - Officers at Polrestabes Palembang, South Sumatra, arrested a celebrity social media network Instagram (celebgram) for allegedly promoting an online gambling site.

The suspect had the initials AS alias Ubey (26), a resident of Jalan Candi Welang, Bukit Kecil.

"He was arrested by the police at his home almost without a fight on Thursday morning," said Palembang Police Chief, Kombes Mokhamad Ngajib when releasing the case at the Palembang Police Headquarters, Antara, Monday, May 9.

According to Ngajib, the act was revealed after the special criminal unit of the Palembang Polrestabes went on a cyber patrol.

From the patrol, the police found that the US was promoting the gambling through content uploaded on a short video sharing channel on his Instagram account @UBEYAPSENSOO.

Based on the suspect's confession to investigators, his promotion has been going on for some time now with a salary of Rp. 4 million.

"The suspect uploaded the content after previously receiving an Instagram DM message from someone, then received a transfer of IDR 4 million two weeks later, IDR 400 thousand, then the suspect was invited to the SIP 777 group," he said.

Investigators are still developing this case to arrest other suspects.

From the suspect's hands, the US police confiscated evidence in the form of a device with the iPhone 13 Promax brand, a BCA ATM card, a cell phone card, and an e-mail address for Ubey's Instagram account.

For this act, the US was charged with Article 27 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 45 paragraph (2) of Law Number 11/2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions in conjunction with Article 55 of the Criminal Code with a penalty of six years in prison and a maximum fine of Rp. 1 billion.
