Meeting Megawati, Prabowo Asks For A Duet With Puan?

JAKARTA - Political observer Adi Prayitno views the meeting of PDIP Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri and General Chairperson of the Gerindra Party Prabowo Subianto as the declaration of the Prabowo-Puan Maharani duo.

Adi Prayitno said this in his written statement, in Jakarta, Sunday 8 May, responding to Prabowo's visit to Megawati Soekarnoputri's residence, on Jalan Teuku Umar, Jakarta, Monday 2 May.

The Executive Director of Indonesian Political Parameters believes that the meeting is closely related to preparations for the 2024 presidential election. "Yes, it must be related to the 2023 presidential election, if it's just a normal relationship, it can be by telephone, video call, right? There must be something to do with 2024," he said.

According to Adi, although the meeting was not recognized as preparation for the 2024 presidential election, it did not deny the closeness factor between Megawati and Prabowo.

"Indeed, there was no election (chat) for the presidential election, but this gathering emphasizes that Prabowo is quite attached to Megawati," he said. The Prabowo-Puan duo some time ago found positive results based on the Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting Survey (SMRC).

"This means that the Prabowo-Puan duet is relatively 'leading', at least these two people have both begun to be known by the public regarding the 2024 presidential election. So yesterday's political gathering seemed to add ammunition so that the public continues to talk about the possibility of Prabowo-Puan being able to duet together ," he insisted.

The SMRC survey shows that if there are only two pairs, Prabowo Subianto-Puan Maharani against Anies Baswedan-Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, then the result is Prabowo-Puan getting 41 percent, Anies-AHY 37.9 percent, and 21 percent who have not made a choice.

Meanwhile, in the Prabowo-Puan simulation against Ganjar-Airlangga, 39.3 percent of Prabowo-Puan supported, 40.3 percent of Ganjar-Airlangga, and 20.5 percent who have not made a choice.
