BPOM: Moderna Vaccine In Indonesia Is Not Contaminated By Foreign Particles

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) ensures that the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine currently circulating in the country does not contain foreign particles that are harmful to health.

The statement was conveyed by the Head of the Bureau of Cooperation and Public Relations of BPOM Noorman Effendi in connection with the news regarding the withdrawal of the COVID-19 Moderna (Spikevax) vaccine in several European countries.

"In an effort to ensure the quality of vaccines circulating in Indonesia, BPOM has carried out sampling and testing of the COVID-19 Moderna (Spikevax) vaccine produced by Rovi Pharma Industrial Services SA, Spain which entered the territory of Indonesia," said Noorman Effendi as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, April 27.

As a result, no foreign particles were found, so the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine (Spikevax) met the requirements for administration to be used in Indonesia, he said.

In an official statement submitted by BPOM RI Moderna and Rovi Pharma Industrial Services SA, Spain, a batch of Moderna (Spikevax) COVID-19 vaccine has been withdrawn from circulation which is produced at Rovi Pharma Industrial Services SA, Spain, namely a vaccine with a batch number. 000190A.

This withdrawal from circulation was carried out because foreign particles were found in one of the vials of the Moderna batch COVID-19 vaccine.

In accordance with the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) granted by BPOM, the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine (Spikevax) is produced at several sites in several countries, one of which is Rovi Pharma Industrial Services SA, Spain.

Moderna (Spikevax) COVID-19 vaccine with batch number 000190A is distributed in several European countries, namely Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Sweden.

Based on import data to Indonesia, said Noorman, there was no import of Moderna (Spikevax) COVID-19 Vaccine with batch number 000190A.

Noorman said BPOM always monitors the safety, efficacy and quality of medicinal products, including the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine (Spikevax) before and after being circulated.

BPOM also continues to follow developments in information regarding the withdrawal of the COVID-19 Moderna (Spikevax) Vaccine batch 000190A in several European countries and will update the information according to the latest data.
