Mahfud MD Says Corruption In Many Lines Can Be Solved By The Next President, The Condition Must Be A Strong Figure, Refly Harun: Why Not The Current President?

JAKARTA - Constitutional law expert Refly Harun gave a scathing satire to Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, who said that a new leader who was strong and could unite was needed to solve state problems such as corruption on many fronts.

Refly questioned Mahfud why this task should be carried out by the new president, not to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who still holds government power for approximately 2.5 years.

"Interestingly, Prof. Mahfud pinned all of those tasks to the new president. Why not the current president?" he said on Refly Harun's YouTube account, Tuesday, April 26.

Refly then suspected that Mahfud's words were in the context of a conversation about leaders after President Jokowi's two-term term expires in 2024.

"The first possibility is that Prof. Mahfud is talking about 2024 alone without relating it to today's power. We think well," he guessed.

However, Refly assessed that this statement could also be related to Mahfud's surrender to the current leader. The problems facing the state, such as the corruption that Mahfud mentioned, have spread to the judiciary, parliament, government bureaucracy, to businessmen, and can only be solved by a strong leader who will emerge from the 2024 General Election.

"Prof Mahfud gave up with the current leadership, so he can only say. That problem can only be addressed, solved, and the new leader looks for a problem solver in 2024. With a note that a strong leader will emerge. One who can eradicate corruption, because of corruption. already spread on all lines," said Refly.

The statement by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, which was criticized by Refly Harun, appeared during a discussion on the Total Politics YouTube channel. Refly also uploaded a video recording of the discussion at the beginning of his comment on Mahfud MD's statement.
