KENDARI - The Kendari City Government, Southeast Sulawesi, has prepared a new policy regarding waste that will be picked up by janitors to the homes of residents of the area.
Kendari Mayor Sulkarnain Kadir in Kendari, Wednesday, April 20, said that with the planned implementation of the policy, his party would reduce, or even eliminate, temporary garbage dumps on the city's main roads.
"Household waste generated will be picked up immediately, so that there is no longer a long cycle of waste being transported in closed trucks and not smelly," he said, quoted by Antara.
According to him, the concept of temporary TPS on various main roads makes the face of Kendari City unfriendly in terms of scenery, plus the behavior of people who do not obey in disposing of garbage. This is because the local government has set a time for waste disposal.
He explained the schedule for disposing of waste based on the Mayor's Regulation No. 21 of 2009 concerning Waste Management Areas and the Time Schedule for Waste Disposal, which is 17:30 to 06:00 central Indonesia time.
"If we look at areas that are declared to have good waste management, such as Surabaya, the step we must also take is to reduce the main road TPS, although later in stages," he said.
Sulkarnain said to support the concept of handling waste that is picked up from house to house, his party will add garbage trucks, because currently the city government only has one unit of odor-resistant garbage truck.
"So far, we have used open trucks, so it is very difficult for people to operate during active times," said Sulkarnain.
