MPR Insists That No Law Can Be Contrary To The 1945 Constitution

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Fadel Muhammad said that the four foundations of the nation are the guides for the people of Indonesia in the future.

“Our task in the MPR is to strengthen the foundation of the nation, namely the Four Pillars of the MPR. The Socialization of the Four Pillars of the MPR explained in detail the four foundations. We want to maintain the four foundations of this nation," said Fadel Muhammad in his statement in Jakarta, Tuesday, April 19.

The four pillars of the MPR RI are Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. Fadel Muhammad explained that the MPR has duties and authorities.

One of the tasks of the MPR is to strengthen the foundation of the nation, namely first, Pancasila as the basis and ideology of the state. Second, the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia as the state constitution.

“If there is a law that contradicts the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, the law can be canceled, adjusted or revised. The 1945 Constitution has undergone four changes or amendments," he said. Third, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) as a form of state, with Indonesia as a unitary state from Sabang to Merauke. Fourth, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika as the national motto, which means that even though they are different in ethnicity, religion, and others, they are still united.

"The four of them are the foundation of our nation," he said again.

Fadel added, to socialize the Four Pillars of the MPR, the MPR has published a set of books on socialization materials. The material book explains at length the Four Pillars of the MPR.

"With this socialization, we don't want the Indonesian nation to be divided. We also don't want our nation to have no ideology. We don't want our nation to not have a legal foundation that guides the life of the nation and state," he said.

In essence, he continued, the dissemination of the socialization of the Four Pillars of the MPR to all Indonesian people is so that the Indonesian nation remains intact with these four pillars. Fadel reminded that in life one must be useful for many people.

“The most important thing in life is that we can be useful for many people. We become important to many people. I keep trying so that I can remain useful, do my best and be useful to many people," he said.

Fadel said that during his two terms as Governor of Gorontalo, he had tried to advance the region. This effort has earned the Gorontalo government three awards, namely the first, the eternal food security award.

"I have received the eternal food security award three times in a row," he said.

Second, the Gorontalo Regional Government also received an award from the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) as the best regional government financial administrator.

“I spearheaded the establishment of the regional financial agency (BKD). Gorontalo is the first new province to form a BKD. Many other provincial governments study regional finance comparative studies to Gorontalo," he said.

Third, during his tenure as Governor of Gorontalo, he has succeeded in reducing poverty. In the past, he said poverty in Gorontalo was 45 percent.

"When I finished being governor, the poverty rate was only 18 percent. Therefore, when the governor election was for the second term, I was able to win with 82 percent of the vote. Two regional heads who got 82 percent of the vote or more, namely the Governor of Gorontalo and the Mayor of Solo ( Joko Widodo)," he said.
