JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria responded to calls for racism and sexism during the International Youth Championship (IYC) tournament which was held at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS).

Riza asked the audience who watched the tournament at the magnificent stadium built by the DKI Provincial Government to maintain ethics.

"We ask that everyone be able to use it properly. There should not be activities that are not good there, including for supporters or spectators, any event there in order to respect and maintain ethics, manners, and others," said Riza at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Monday, April 18.

The chairman of the Regional Leadership Council (DPD) of Gerindra Party DKI hopes that there will be no bad behavior within the JIS environment. As is well known, JIS is the pride stadium for the citizens of Jakarta.

The incident of racism and harassment was captured in a short video shared by the @addogerardo account on Twitter on Friday, April 15, 2022. The account reported racist remarks against Atletico Madrid players as well as the harassment of female medical personnel. The racist and sexist remarks came from the stands.

"JIS was built as a place of international standard, it is our pride. We have seen firsthand also watching the match there, it is very proud," said Riza.

For information, this problem was originally revealed in the Twitter account @addogerardo. This account uploads videos that sound racist remarks to Atletico Madrid players and sexist remarks to female medical personnel.

The IYC 2021 Organizing Committee opens its vote. The committee said they regretted the incident. They appealed to the audience not to call for racism and sexism that could disrupt the course of the game.

In fact, the committee threatened to expel the audience if it happened again.

"For the remaining four matches, including the final, the IYC Organizing Committee will take decisive action starting from the announcement by the announcer to expel spectators from the stadium, to being forced to stop the match if necessary," the statement from the IYC organizing committee wrote.
