Menkumham Yasonna Invites Local Government To Educate The Community To Care For Intellectual Property

MEDAN - Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Yasonna H. Laoly invites all local governments, especially governors on the island of Sumatra to encourage their people to be more concerned about intellectual property.

"Awareness or concern for intellectual property, such as registering copyrights, brand rights, geographical indications, and other intellectual property is very important and the role of the government in this regard is also very important," said Yasonna at the Roving Seminar (Seminar Roving) Intellectual Property entitled " Stimulating Creativity and Innovation for National Economic Recovery" at the JW Marriott Hotel Medan, North Sumatra, Wednesday, April 13.

According to him, public awareness of the intellectual property through recording and protection is needed because the intellectual property ecosystem as an economic cycle driven by innovation and creativity has an effect not only in improving the economy of the owner, but also in increasing national economic growth and development.

He also said intellectual property can accelerate the realization of a nation's brand, which is a strategy to represent a country with the aim of creating reputational values ​​through tourism, socio-economic conditions, society, and investment.

In fact, the intellectual property also supports the country's economic independence.

Yasonna gave an example of the success of Endek cloth from Bali in becoming a nation branding. After being registered as intellectual property and becoming a nation branding, he said, the fabric was used by the Christian Dior fashion house at the 2021 Paris Fashion Week event.

Yasonna also said, from the 86 designs of the latest Christian Dior collection, there are nine fashion designs that use Balinese Endek fabrics.

Furthermore, Yasonna said that in order for intellectual property to support the country's economy, the Indonesian people need to implement four main pillars.

The four main pillars of intellectual property are intellectual property creation, intellectual property acquisition or protection, law enforcement, and intellectual property commercialization.
