The Government Invites The Community To Guard And Succeed In The 2024 Election

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD asked the public and all related parties to oversee the 2024 General Election (Pemilu).

"Let's jointly guard our political agenda, our constitutional agenda, namely holding presidential and vice presidential elections, legislative elections, and regional elections in 2024," said Mahfud in a video description uploaded on the YouTube of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Tuesday, April 12.

He also said the government through the General Elections Commission (KPU) together with the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) would work to prepare for the implementation of this election. Moreover, Mahfud said, the KPU commissioners and Bawaslu members for the 2022-2027 period have been inaugurated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

"Everyone stated that they are ready to work to prepare the general election and local elections in 2024 as well as possible," he stressed.

Although preparations have been made, community participation is also very much needed in this event. So, Mahfud asked all parties to play an active role but also still obey the applicable regulations.

"It will certainly work if we, who care about the growth and development of democracy in Indonesia, help Bawaslu and KPU and encourage the public to participate actively and in an orderly and law-abiding manner in the implementation of this election," said the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK).

As previously reported, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) officially inaugurated seven members of the General Election Commission (KPU) and five members of the General Elections Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) for the 2022-2027 period at the State Palace, Jakarta today.

The seven KPU commissioners elected were Betty Epsilon Idrus, Hasyim Asy'ari, Mochammad Afifudin, Parsadaan Harahap, Yulianto Sudrajat, Idham Holik, and August Mellaz.

Meanwhile, five Bawaslu members were elected, Lolly Suhenty, Puadi, Rahmat Bagja, Totok Hariyono, and Herwyn Jefler Hielsa Malonda.

In addition, President Jokowi has also confirmed that the 2024 General Election will be held on February 14. This was conveyed at a limited meeting regarding the confirmation of the implementation of the 2024 General Election on Sunday, April 10 yesterday.

"First, I ask the public to convey that all stages and schedules for the implementation of the general election and the regional head election have been determined. I think it is clear and everyone needs to know that the election will be held on February 14, 2024," Jokowi said as shown on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube.

Simultaneous elections in question are elections to elect the President and Vice President, members of the House of Representatives (DPR) RI, Regional Representatives Council (DPD), Provincial People's Representative Council (DPRD) and Regency/Municipal DPRD.

"This needs to be explained, lest there will be speculations circulating in the community that the government is delaying the election, or speculation about the extension of the president's office and related to three terms," added President Jokowi.
