JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the House of Representatives (DPR), Luqman Hakim, warned that around 200 million population data stored in the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) Data Center of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) is in danger of being lost.

The reason, said Luqman, is that hundreds of server devices at the Dukcapil Data Center of the Ministry of Home Affairs are old.

"The storage area for 200 million population data managed by the Dukcapil Data Center is too old, worn out, expired, and some spare parts have been discontinued", said Luqman to reporters, Tuesday, April 12.

According to information received by Luqman, no party dared to carry out the maintenance process on these hundreds of servers. Because he said, the possibility of damage is very large.

"I see that until now there have been no measurable steps in which the hardware rejuvenation or renewal process for hundreds of servers belonging to Dukcapil is budgeted and a priority at the Ministry of Home Affairs", said Luqman.

He considered this condition not to be taken lightly. The reason is, that if the feared damage actually occurs, population data that has been updated and checked for years may be lost in vain.

"If this is allowed, our nation will suffer a considerable loss", said Luqman.

"Of course, this is very dangerous, I am very worried that the population data which is the basis of many state services to the people, if the system goes down and the hardware is fatally damaged, then we might setback, back to the stone age", he continued.

Once again, the PKB politician hopes that the government will not take this issue lightly.

"I knock on the heart of the Minister of Home Affairs, Minister of Finance, if necessary, the President should intervene on the problem of population data which is threatened with destruction due to the system, both software, and hardware, being not properly maintained", he said.
