JAKARTA - A number of labor unions and elements of society will hold demonstrations to reject the ratification of the Work Creation Omnibus Law Bill on October 6 to 8 at the DPR RI Building.

Director of the Jakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH) Arif Maulana said the demonstration which will be held later is the last attempt to tackle the ratification of the Job Creation Bill.

This is because, on October 8, the government and the DPR will hold a plenary meeting related to level II decision making to ratify the Job Creation Bill.

"This is the last (demonstration against the Job Creation Bill) from friends, which we must take as a last resort because we have no other choice," said Arif in a webinar discussion, Sunday, October 4.

From the start, Arif stated that his party firmly rejected the Job Creation Bill when it was still in discussion of the rules. According to him, this controversial bill has formal defects, procedural flaws and material defects.

"This bill collides with various provisions on the formation of laws and regulations, even the constitution is the highest law in this country," said Arif.

He continued, the attitude of the government and the DPR in processing the Job Creation Bill was a constitutional crime. Because, the formation of these regulations is considered to ignore the interests of the people.

Since the beginning, Arif assessed that the discussion of the Job Creation Bill was very closed, secretive, and discriminatory because it only involved groups of entrepreneurs without participating in the people who would be affected.

"That the draft Omnubus Law will be a crime against the constitution, is absolutely correct. Not only a crime, but this is a form of betrayal by the government and also the DPR against democratic principles, constitutional principles and also the rule of law," said Arif.

It is estimated that there will be around 20 thousand mass mobilizations from Jakarta, Banten and West Java that will head to the DPR RI Building. When coupled with demonstrations in other provinces, the total number of demonstrators will be around 100,000 people.
