Tear Gas Shots, Police Continue To Retreat Masses Of Demonstration In Front Of DPR

JAKARTA - Police officers dispersed a mass of the All-Indonesian Student Executive Board (BEM SI) which was holding a demonstration in front of the Senayan Parliament Complex Building, Jakarta on Monday 11 April afternoon.

Based on VOI monitoring at 16.24 WIB, the police pushed back the crowd far from the front of the Jakarta DPR Building. The police fired a quantity of tear gas at the students. However, the crowd still had not dispersed.

They are concentrated in a number of points, including the DPR towards Slipi, the DPR towards Pancoran, and on the edge of the Permata Hijau railway to Bendungan Hilir.

A number of police were seen standing by on the side of the building at Bendungan Hilir monitoring the crowd from a distance.

The current traffic flow in front of the DPR building still cannot be crossed. Police are still closing Jalan Jendral Gatot Subroto from Kuningan to Slipi, West Jakarta.

However, the opposite direction is still open for people who want to pass.

Previously, a student demonstration in front of the DPR Building was chaotic. The demonstrators pelted the Senayan Parliament Complex with stones.

The action lasted a few minutes. The DPR leadership accepted the demands of the students at the gate.

When Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco, Rahmat Gobel and Lodewijk F Paulus entered and the National Police Chief entered, suddenly the students banged on the DPR gate and threw stones. The action was followed by the sound of firecrackers.

Whereas previously the demonstration was conducive. The security forces were on standby and issued water cannons.
