Ensure That The General Election Takes Place On February 14, 2024, Jokowi Asks For Detailed Calculations Of The Budget

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has confirmed that the General Election will take place on February 14, 2024. Jokowi asked that the entire budget that will be issued in the contest every five years be calculated in detail.

"I ask for more detailed calculations, both the State Budget (APBN) and the Regional Budget (APBD) so that they can be prepared in stages", Jokowi said as quoted from his Twitter account @jokowi on Monday, April 11.

Jokowi said the budget must be calculated in detail. Moreover, Jokowi said that the state money to be spent on legislative, presidential, and regional head elections amounted to trillions of rupiah.

"The elections on February 14, 2024, and the simultaneous regional elections in November 2024 are estimated to require a budget of up to IDR 110.4 trillion, for KPU IDR 76.6 trillion and Bawaslu IDR 33.8 trillion", he said.

As previously reported, Jokowi issued an official statement that the simultaneous elections for presidential and legislative elections will still be held on February 14, 2024. This was conveyed at a limited meeting regarding the confirmation of the implementation of the 2024 General Election on Sunday, April 10 yesterday.

"First, I ask the public to convey that all stages and schedules for the implementation of the general election and the regional head election have been determined. I think it is clear and everyone needs to know that the election will be held on February 14, 2024", Jokowi said as shown on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube.

Simultaneous elections in question are elections to elect the President and Vice President, members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Regional Representatives Council (DPD), Provincial People's Representative Council (DPRD), and Regency/Municipal DPRD.

"This needs to be explained, lest there will be speculations circulating in the community that the government is delaying the election, or speculation on the extension of the president's office and related to three terms", added President Jokowi.
