JAKARTA - China's senior diplomat said his country is ready to play a constructive role in ending Ukraine's war with Russia and restoring security in Europe.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke to his Ukrainian counterpart, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on the call, with Beijing again calling for talks to end the conflict in Ukraine.
The call, which Beijing says was made at Ukraine's request, is the first reported high-level conversation between the countries since March 1.
At that time, Foreign Minister Kuleba asked Beijing to use its relationship with Moscow to stop the Russian invasion, Ukraine's foreign ministry said at the time.
"The war ended in the end. The key is how to reflect the pain, to maintain lasting security in Europe, and to build a balanced, effective, and sustainable European security mechanism", Foreign Minister Wang said according to the ministry.
"China stands ready to play a constructive role in this in an objective position", he continued.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Kuleba in his tweet on Twitter expressed his gratitude to China for showing solidarity with the victims of Ukrainian civilians.
"We both share the same belief that ending the war against Ukraine serves the common interests of peace, global food security, and international trade", he said.
