Bad Environment And Dense Population Make 17 Districts In Lebak Officially Endemic For Dengue Fever

JAKARTA - 17 sub-districts in Lebak, Banten, have been declared as endemic areas for the transmission of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF).

"From the 17 sub-districts, 195 people have been identified as positive for dengue fever and four of them are reported to have died," said Head of Section for the Eradication and Prevention of Infectious Diseases at the Lebak Regency Health Office, Rohmat, Monday, March 4.

The community affected by the transmission of dengue disease is due to poor environmental hygiene in the community and has the potential to breed Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes. In addition, the condition of the people who live in densely populated settlements.

Currently, he said, the dengue transmission endemic areas in Lebak recorded 195 people spread across 17 sub-districts, namely Rangkasbitung 89 cases (4 died), Cibadak 33 cases, Kalanganyar 15 cases, Cibeber 8 cases, and Cimarga 7 cases.

Other areas District​​​​​Warunggunung 8 cases,​​​Sajira 6 cases, Maja 7 cases, Curugbitung 4 cases, Cileles 4 cases,​​​Cipanas 4 cases, ​​​​Sobang 2 cases,​​​Cikukur 1 case,​​​Bojongmanik 1 case,​​Bayah 2 cases, Leuwidamar 2 cases and Malingping 2 cases.

So far, he said, cases of dengue fever transmission in Lebak were quite significant following the arrival of the rainy season.

Therefore, his party does not stop socializing and educating for the prevention of dengue fever so as not to cause cases of extraordinary events (KLB).

The spread of dengue fever is due to an unsanitary environment that breeds mosquitoes carrying the dengue virus.

The community is asked to play an active role in optimizing the culture of mutual cooperation by carrying out environmental hygiene activities and the Mosquito Nest Eradication (PSN) movement by closing, burning, and burying (3M). In addition, the provision of abatement to kill the mosquito larvae of DHF.

Because, he said, the act of fogging or fogging was considered ineffective to break the chain of the spread of DHF.

"I believe that PSN and 3M can kill mosquito larvae, so they are free from the spread of this deadly disease," he said.​​​​​

He said the spread of DHF in Lebak Regency should be watched out for because it is estimated that this year will be a five-year cycle.

During January-March 2022, there were 195 people with dengue fever and four of them were reported to have died. Moreover, the BMKG predicts that in the next few months the rainfall will be quite high with heavy, light and moderate intensity.

Rainfall causes puddles, including in the place of used goods, bathtubs, fish ponds, and others.

"Usually, the dengue mosquito breeds in the clean water," he explained.
