Firli Bahuri Reminds Chief Of Political Parties The Importance Of Preventing Corruption-Friendly Practices And Corrupt Behavior

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri reminded the general chairman of political parties in the country not only to close the opportunity for corruption. According to him, they must not be permissive about corrupt practices and behavior that occurs in the system.

This was conveyed by Firli through a thread uploaded to his Twitter account, @firlibahuri. In his upload, the former Deputy for Enforcement of the KPK initially admitted that he was tempted to trace the root of the problem of corruption in Indonesia.

"The longer I think about eradicating corruption, the more tempted I become to trace the roots of this problem and the more I believe that corruption is the result of a bad system," Firli wrote on her official Twitter account quoted Monday, March 21.

Firli said, if the political system in the country is solid, then corruption can disappear. Thus, it is important for all parties to improve the current democratic system.

At least, there are three ways that can be done to make this effort. First, continue to improve regulations so that there are no loopholes for corrupt practices that take advantage of the legal vacuum. Second, build transparent and professional institutions.

Finally, leaders must be able to set an example so that corrupt practices will no longer occur. This improvement is certainly homework for politicians, including political parties.

"There is a lot of homework for our politicians from village heads to heads of state. That's why I often mention and call attention to 'power branches of political parties' in addition to the other 3 branches of power," he said.

Thus, Firli reminded that political parties have an important role in efforts to eradicate corruption. Moreover, they have a direct influence on the executive, legislative, and judiciary as well as the strength of today's democratic society.

"Leaders of political parties in particular and all parties contribute to not only eliminating opportunities for corruption to occur, but also not allowing corruption-friendly practices and corrupt behavior to develop in the system," he said.

In addition, Firli reminded, they must also ensure that every rupiah of state money is used properly for the people. "But all of this can only be established in a system that works well. If leaders, especially political leaders struggle to create an anti-corruption system, then all actions of officials will be in accordance with high ethical standards," he said.

"But if the leaders start to loosen up and allow anomalies in the system, gradually the effectiveness of the system, including the anti-corruption system, will weaken and eventually be destroyed," said Firli.
