These Four Provinces Still Experience An Increase In COVID-19 Cases

JAKARTA - The majority of provinces in Indonesia have shown a decline in COVID-19 cases at this time, after entering the third wave due to transmission of the Omicron variant.

However, the Secretary of the Directorate General of Public Health at the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, said that there are still four provinces that are still experiencing an increase in COVID-19 cases.

"The cases of COVID-19 in 30 provinces have decreased, the remaining 4 provinces are still recording an increase in cases. The provinces are Aceh, North Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, and East Nusa Tenggara", Nadia said in her statement, Monday, March 14.

Meanwhile, nationally, the bed occupation rate (BOR) for COVID-19 has decreased. It was recorded that the BOR on Saturday, March 12 was 23 percent and on Sunday, March 13 it was 22 percent.

Then, the death rate has consistently started to fall from March 8, 2022, until now. The absolute death rate for the past 7 days was down 1.98 percent from the previous week.

"This is good news for handling the COVID-19 pandemic. An important indicator for controlling the pandemic nationally shows very good progress", said Nadia.

Although the condition of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia is starting to improve, there are still some notes that need to be pursued, namely complete coverage of COVID-19 vaccinations and booster vaccinations to immediately form herd immunity.

"To prevent the worst risk of COVID-19 infection, the next factor that must be pursued quickly is the fulfillment of complete and national booster vaccinations. If we complete the number of complete and booster vaccinations quickly, we will be able to prepare for the epidemic faster", she said.
