Extreme Weather, BPBD Lebak Urges Fishermen To Be More Alert To High Waves

JAKARTA - To avoid marine accidents, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Banten Province appealed to traditional fishermen to be alert to bad weather marked by high waves accompanied by rain and strong winds.

"We hope that fishermen using small boats stay alert when going to sea", said Head of the Lebak Regency BPBD Emergency and Logistics Section, Agus Reza Faisal, in Lebak, Monday, February 28.

Based on the BMKG report, the wave height of the southern part of the Sunda Strait is above 2.5 meters and is dangerous for small boats to sail.

Most of the traditional fishermen on the south coast of Lebak Regency use the catch of limping motorboats, so they are not strong enough to withstand waves above 2.5 meters and are accompanied by strong winds.

Likewise, coastal residents and tourists do not carry out activities around the coast, such as fishing or swimming.

In fact, tourists from Jakarta are now victims of marine accidents after swimming at Ciantir Beach in the Sawarna Waters area.

Thus, his party asked fishermen from Binuangeun Beach, Tanjung Panto Beach, Bagedur Beach, Suka Rain Beach, Cihara Beach, Panggarangan Beach, Bayah Beach, Pulomanuk Beach, and Sawarna Beach to be alert to avoid marine accidents.

"We hope that with vigilance it will not cause a marine accident", he explained.

Head of the Binuangeun Fish Landing Base (PPI) of Lebak Regency, Ahmad Hadi, admitted that since the last two weeks the weather had hit the southern part of the Sunda Strait, in addition to high waves accompanied by rain and strong winds.

He also appealed to traditional fishermen who are scattered in 11 fish auction places (TPI) when going to sea to increase their alertness to the bad weather to avoid marine accidents.

"So far, we have not received any marine accidents", he said.
