DPR Asks Ministry Of Foreign Affairs To Encourage Russia And Ukraine To Peacefully Resolve Conflicts

JAKARTA - Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives asked the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) to take advantage of Indonesia's proximity to Ukraine and Russia to resolve tensions in the two countries.

Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian Parliament, Abdul Kharis Almasyari, said that based on the constitutional mandate, Indonesia could play an active role in world peace by encouraging all parties to exercise restraint and return to the negotiating table.

"Therefore, I request that the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs continue to encourage Russia and Ukraine to use peaceful means in resolving conflicts," said Kharis, Friday, February 25. In addition to making direct contact with Russia, he continued, Indonesia can also express opinions to friendly countries in international forums. As in the UN General Assembly meeting.

The goal, according to Kharis, is for Russia and Ukraine to immediately end this armed conflict before there are more victims.

On the other hand, said Kharis, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must move quickly in protecting Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Ukraine. He said that all Indonesian citizens needed to be gathered at the Indonesian Embassy in Kyiv.

"If necessary, evacuate to the nearest safe country," said Kharis.

The PKS politician reminded that the escalation in Ukraine is going fast, making it vulnerable to fatalities. Meanwhile, the number of Indonesian citizens in Ukraine reached 138 people.

"For this reason, it is necessary to immediately take quick security measures so that if necessary, temporary evacuation to the nearest safe country," he said.

Kharis also supports the position of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs so that Russia obeys international law and the United Nations Charter regarding the territorial integrity of a country. As well as condemning every action that clearly constitutes a violation of the territorial territory and sovereignty of a country.

"So, on various occasions, the DPR has always supported the foreign policy stance of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs so that each country emphasizes respect for the integral territory of one country and the application of international law," said Kharis.
