Makassar-Lombok Direct Flights Open To Support MotoGP

MAKASSAR - The Tourism Office and the Regional Tourism Promotion Agency (BPPD) of South Sulawesi launched a direct flight or Makassar - Lombok - Makassar to make the MotoGP event a success at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

The launch was carried out by the Secretary of the South Sulawesi Tourism Office, Devo Gaddafi with the Chairman of the South Sulawesi BPPD Andry Arief Bulu, Lion Group's Corporate Communication Strategic, Danang Mandala Prihantoro, Deputy Director of Bank Indonesia Sulsel, Hasiando Ginsar Manik in Makassar, Tuesday, February 22.

It is planned that the first flight from Makassar to Lombok will take place on March 9, 2022 and from Lombok to Makassar on March 8, 2022. Using Wings Air airline from Lion Air Group.

Chairman of the Regional Tourism Promotion Agency (BPPD) of South Sulawesi Andry S Arief Bulu, said that the opening of this direct flight was a follow-up to the collaboration between BPPD of South Sulawesi and the Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) at Sirkut Mandalika, Central Lombok Regency, January 11, 2021.

In the midst of this pandemic condition, evidence of joint collaboration in restoring the tourism sector and the creative economy which will also have an impact on the economy.

"This MotoGP event, our target is how to promote South Sulawesi outside. Which will benefit the world of tourism in South Sulawesi," he said.

He also said that the Makassar-Lombok direct flight had stopped several years ago, until thanks to joint work, direct flights are now available.

These direct flights shorten the mileage and time, as well as lower costs.

"So the direct flight from Makassar to Lombok is estimated to take around 1 hour 45 minutes. Compared to having to transit to Denpasar and Surabaya, which should take up to 7 hours," he said.

Not only that, the Regional Tourism Promotion Agency (BPPD) of South Sulawesi has opened a service for ticket sales for the 2022 MotoGP season.

Devo Gaddafi appreciated the efforts of BPPD Sulsel together with Lion Air Group in the presence of this Makassar - Lombok - Makassar direct flight.

"Shows the existence of the importance of promotion agencies for the world of tourism in South Sulawesi. This is extraordinary for restoring the economy," he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director of Bank Indonesia Sulsel, Hasiando Ginsar Manik said, this is a real work in realizing South Sulawesi as a center for diversity of destinations and local wisdom in Eastern Indonesia, known as the "South Sulawesi Colorful Experience".

"We see that the tagline fits the profile of South Sulawesi, which is filled with various beautiful tourist destinations," he said.

Lion Group's Corporate Communication Strategic Danang Mandala Prihantoro said the presence of this direct flight was to support the process of accelerating economic recovery, especially in the tourism sector.
