BANDUNG - West Java Governor Ridwan inaugurated the Sriwijaya Underpass which is located in front of Dustira Hospital on Jalan Sriwijaya and is the first underpass in Cimahi City.

The 600 meter long, 8.6 meter wide and 5.2 meter high underpass was built under the Cimahi Station railroad track and can be used for two lanes of vehicles.

The governor believes that this underground road will eventually solve the congestion at the Contong crossing which has been an obstacle for residents' activities.

"Hopefully it will be useful for the smooth economy and welfare of the people of Cimahi," he said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, February 22.

According to Kang Emil, Cimahi's infrastructure needs to be continuously supported because it is strategic and becomes a gathering place for military institutions.

The Sriwijaya Underpass was built through a budget collaboration scheme between the West Java Provincial Government financial assistance of Rp. 105 billion for technical development and the Cimahi City Budget of Rp. 1.1 billion for land acquisition.

"Cimahi must continue to be supported, especially since the fast train will also operate next year," he said.

Kang Emil had said that later in Cimahi, the largest tourist center would be built beyond the city of Bandung. But he still keeps the type of tour and its location a secret until the design is complete.

"We will make the largest tourist center in Cimahi and even in the city of Bandung, so later we don't just go to Lembang. The place is still being kept secret, it is being conceptualized, this is my commitment with Mr. Wali (Plt Mayor of Cimahi)," said Kang Emil.

The Acting Mayor of Cimahi Ngatiyana also invited the public to protect regional assets such as the Sriwijaya Underpass for the common good.

He also expressed his gratitude for the assistance from the West Java Provincial Government and to the people who were patient during the development process.

"Thank you for your support and patience, let's take care of this asset together for the common good," he said.

His party hopes that next year Cimahi can again get assistance from the West Java Provincial Government to build another underpass on the east side of Cimahi Station.

Ngatiyana said that although Cimahi's area is small, this area has a population density and is a crossroads between regions.

"Hopefully the assistance will not only be this but the underpass on the east side can also be built in 2023," he said.
