Government Claims to Control the Rights of Workers at PT Namnam Fashion who were Laid Off

Deputy Assistant II to the President for Manpower and Labor Welfare Dadan Sudiana carried out a surprise inspection at PT Namnam Fashion Industries in Cimahi/ANTARA/Ilham Nugraha.

JAKARTA - The government ensures that it will monitor the process of fulfilling the rights of workers affected by layoffs (PHK) at PT Namnam Fashion Industries Kota Cimahi, West Java, so that it runs in accordance with the applicable provisions.

Deputy Assistant II to the President for Manpower and Labor Welfare, Dadan Sudiana, said his party conducted a surprise inspection of the company to find out information related to the layoffs of around 178 workers.

"We came to dig up information regarding the dismissal of around 180 workers. We want to ensure that the rights of workers after this dismissal can be in accordance with the provisions," said Dadan after conducting a raid at PT Namnam Fashion Industries, reported by ANTARA, Thursday, August 6.

Dadan said there were things that needed to be studied regarding the reason for the company's layoffs, especially regarding the payment of severance pay of 0.5 times the provision referred to by the company based on the loss conditions for three consecutive years.

However, based on the financial statements that have been audited by public accountants, his party sees that the company's condition has experienced a decline in profits, not losses.

"If I look at the financial statements, this is not a loss, but a reduction in profit. Then we will study it further with Bung Said Iqbal regarding the next steps," he said.

According to Dadan, the government is still encouraging other efforts so that layoffs become the last step, considering that the company has been established since 1989 and many workers have served for decades.

"We still hope that the company can make other efforts, because layoffs should be the last step," he said.

He added that his party would also coordinate with the West Java Provincial Manpower Service and the Cimahi City Manpower Service to investigate the conditions of the affected workers, including the status of workers with a certain working agreement (PKWT).

Previously, PT Namnam Fashion Industries laid off 178 workers in two stages, namely 92 workers in the first stage and 86 workers in the second stage.

The government hopes that the resolution of this issue can be carried out through dialogue between companies and workers while still paying attention to business continuity and the protection of workers' rights.
