Sriwijaya Dharmakirti Museum Opens, Muarajambi Aims to Become a World Education Center

JAKARTA - The Sriwijaya Dharmakirti Museum was officially opened in the National Cultural Heritage Area or KCBN Muarajambi. The government wants this area to not only be a place to see historical relics, but also a center for education, research, and economic drivers for residents.

The museum was inaugurated by the Minister of Culture Fadli Zon in Muaro Jambi, Friday, July 31.

Fadli said Muarajambi is one of the important civilization landscapes in the archipelago. At that time, this area developed as a center of culture, religion, and exchange of knowledge.

Muarajambi is also said to connect Sumatra with India, China, Tibet, and a number of Southeast Asian regions.

According to Fadli, the inauguration of the Sriwijaya Dharmakirti Museum and the revitalization of the KCBN Muarajambi are part of efforts to care for the historical traces.

He said there were three main functions that he wanted to strengthen. First, Muarajambi as a global education and research center. Second, as an inclusive cultural space. Third, as a driver of community welfare.

"The Sriwijaya Dharmakirti Museum and Muara Jambi Temple can certainly be a place for young generations, national and international researchers to study maritime history, water-based urban planning, and the Nusantara knowledge civilization," said Fadli.

He said museums and temple areas were also a space for local people to care for traditions, art, and values that were passed down by ancestors.

Fadli assessed that the inauguration of the museum and the revitalization of KCBN Muarajambi were in line with President Prabowo Subianto's direction to care for Indonesian history and cultural roots.

"History is the root of culture and identity of our identity. Therefore, President Prabowo Subianto strongly encourages the revitalization of cultural sites, palaces, palaces, and also various heritage of cultural heritage from ancestors and ancestors," said Fadli.

In the inauguration series, Fadli together with Jambi Governor Al Haris witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Directorate General of Cultural and Traditional Protection and the Jambi Police.

The cooperation is aimed at strengthening the supervision and security of the Muarajambi KCBN from threats to the preservation of the area.

Director General of Cultural and Traditional Protection Restu Gunawan said that the revitalization of KCBN Muarajambi includes land acquisition, restoration, environmental arrangement, and improvement of visitor infrastructure quality with the concept of urban landscape.

The Ministry of Education also digitizes and makes an animated film of the Sriwijaya Dharmakirti Museum.

Jambi Governor Al Haris supports the strengthening of the KCBN Muarajambi ecosystem. He said the museum showed a miniature history of the Buddhist civilization.

"This museum is not only something that many people watch, but it will also be a memory and an educational space," said Al Haris.
