JAKARTA - 95-year-old Queen Elizabeth has been confirmed positive for COVID-19 and has mild symptoms. However Queen Elizabeth hopes to resume light duties this week.

"The queen has tested positive for COVID today," the palace said. "His Royal Highness is experiencing mild flu-like symptoms but looks forward to continuing his light duties at Windsor in the coming week."

"He will continue to receive health care and will follow all appropriate guidelines," Buckingham Palace said.

Earlier, Prince Charles, the 73-year-old heir to the British throne, this month withdrew from an event after contracting the coronavirus for the second time. A palace source said he met Queen Elizabeth a few days earlier.

The health of the Queen of England, the world's oldest and longest-reigning monarch, has been in the spotlight since she was hospitalized overnight last October with an unexplained illness and has since been advised to rest by her team of doctors.

Elizabeth on Wednesday joked to members of the royal household that she had been unable to move much during her first in-person duty since Charles tested positive.
