GP Ansor: Strict Police Action Against FPI Troops At KM 50 Based On Rules, Cannot Be Criminalized

JAKARTA - The Youth Movement (GP) Ansor stated that the police's firm action against the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) at KM 50 of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road cannot be criminalized.

Secretary General of the Central Executive GP Ansor Abdul Rochman assessed that the shooting of six members of Laskar FPI by the police at KM 50 of the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road, December 7, 2020, was a firm action for disobedience to the law.

According to him, the police action cannot be categorized as a criminal act because it is part of law enforcement.

"The actions of law enforcement officers who have been based on the authority given by laws and regulations and are in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), such actions should not be criminalized," he said, quoted by Antara from a written statement, Friday, February 18.

In this case, two police officers from Polda Metro Jaya, namely Ipda MYO and Brigadier FR, were brought to court. Both were charged with Article 338 of the Criminal Code regarding murder and Article 351 of the Criminal Code regarding torture that causes death.

Abdul Rochman is of the opinion that the incident at KM 50 will not cause any casualties if members of the FPI mass organization obey and obey the law.

However, he continued, the fact is that FPI members are even uncooperative towards law enforcement officers who are carrying out their duties in accordance with their authority based on laws and statutory regulations.

"Efforts to seize firearms and abuse officers while on duty clearly cannot be justified. Objections to the actions of law enforcement officers can only be pursued in a peaceful and civilized manner through legal mechanisms and procedures," he said.

GP Ansor views the KM 50 incident as a heartbreaking event that should have been avoided.

He also hopes that this case will not be repeated in the future.

GP Ansor asked that the case could be resolved in a clear manner and result in fair legal justice.

"There should not be attempts by a group that insists on criminalizing with a target only to satisfy the desire for revenge. The law is not to satisfy anger and revenge," he said.

It is also said that any disobedience or resistance carried out by means of violence cannot be justified. Such actions will also destroy the authority of the law and law enforcement officers.

Not only that, he said, on a broad scale, these actions can also damage conditions of security, order, peace, and order in the fabric of people's lives.
