Puan Maharani: Moving The National Capital Shows Building Equity, No Longer Java Centris

SAMARINDA - Speaker of the DPR, Puan Maharani, said the relocation of the state capital city (IKN) to East Kalimantan is a reform step that deserves the support of all parties.

Puan said the existence of IKN Nusantara was not only a matter of moving the State Palace and the Indonesian government, but the most important thing was equitable development which was no longer Java centric, but Indonesia centric.

"One thing I understand from this IKN transfer is how the state is present not only in Java, but also in other regions in Indonesia. And East Kalimantan, North Penajam Paser are the choices," said Puan Maharani in a written statement quoted by Antara, Wednesday, 16 February.

Puan believes that the new IKN will later become a reflection of the nation's capital city that is environmentally friendly, modern, and pays attention to the needs of the community.

The construction of the new IKN is the first since Indonesia's independence. According to him, this new IKN is ideal for Indonesia. IKN will be the face of Indonesia's future progress.

"This will be the ideal IKN for Indonesia in the future. The face of Indonesia is admired by other nations in the world," he said.

However, Puan said that the construction of a replacement IKN for Jakarta will not be achieved in the near future. IKN will not be completed in the next two or three years.

IKN development will take a long time. Therefore, the support of all elements of the nation is needed to achieve this grand plan.

Puan also ensured that IKN would be built in an integrated manner, not only within the scope of government and state security (TNI/Polri), but also with society and nature.

Finally, Puan reminded that although the IKN development process is the authority of the executive, synergy and communication with the legislature and other elements of the nation must still be carried out properly.
