Candidates For The Head Of The Incumbent Region In The 2020 Pilkada Under The Monitoring Of The KPK

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) reminded incumbent regional head candidates or elements of the government apparatus not to use the state budget in the 2020 simultaneous regional elections.

KPK chairman Firli Bahuri said, if this was done then his party would intervene by taking action.

"Do not ever think that the KPK will find it difficult to monitor the movement, especially the potential for corruption in simultaneous regional elections in 270 regions, including nine provinces, 224 regencies and 37 cities," Firli said in his statement quoted by Antara, Jakarta, Tuesday, September 8.

The KPK, Firli continued, remains committed to eradicating corruption and is not affected by the election process.

"The pilkada process is a political domain, while law enforcement is in a different domain. So the law enforcement process continues and is not affected by the implementation of the elections," said Firli.

He also said that his agency had built a special system to monitor the 2020 simultaneous regional elections and applied the concept of "three prongs approaches" to guarding clean elections.

"In addition, the KPK has 'the eyes of the people', namely the nation's children who have integrity and maintain the values of honesty. They are not afraid, dare to shout loudly, shout the truth between the whispers of corruption crimes," said Firli.

The enthusiasm and active role of the "people's eyes", said Firli, can be seen from the high number of reports of alleged corruption in the KPK Public Complaints channel.

"So we can prevent it if it hasn't happened and we will definitely act if (corruption) has been committed," he said.

In addition, he said the KPK together with the Indonesian Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) would visit regional head candidates to ask them to sign an integrity pact as an effort to prevent corruption.

The KPK makes full efforts so that the 2020 Pilkada Simultaneously does not produce new corruptors as happened in the previous pilkada, where the elected regional head was a suspect in a corruption case not long after being inaugurated.

"Once again, I urge all regional head candidates including the campaign team and the supporting political parties to put forward anti-corruption sportsmanship in winning the 2020 simultaneous regional elections," said Firli.
