NTT Health Office Reports A Resident Exposed To Omicron

KUPANG - The Department of Health, Population and Civil Registration of East Nusa Tenggara reported that one resident in NTT was known to have been exposed to the new variant of COVID-19, Omicron.

Head of Health, Population and Civil Registration Office of NTT Province, dr. Meserasi Ataupah said this was the first case of Omicron in NTT.

"The new variant was discovered in NTT after one patient suspected of having been exposed to COVID-19, the results of his PCR swab were sent to Jakarta on Thursday, February 3", he said, quoted by Antara on Monday, February 7.

The COVID-19 patient with the new variant of Omicron said he is currently undergoing isolation and being handled by the Kupang City government.

"The patient is a resident of Kupang City", said Meserasih.

In this case, people in NTT are advised not to worry because this new variant is not as dangerous as the previous variant.

With the new variant case, the Health Office also appealed to the people in NTT to continue to comply with the health protocol.

In addition, awareness of COVID-19 vaccination also needs to be increased so that it is not easy to be exposed to COVID-19, especially for the elderly in the island province.

President Joko Widodo has also appealed to President Joko Widodo so that the acceleration of vaccination and adherence to health procedures are the main things in preventing the spread of COVID-19 cases.
