Task Force Reveals League 1's Fate After Many Players Positive For COVID-19

JAKARTA - Several players in the 2021/2022 Liga 1 competition have tested positive for COVID-19. However, the Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, said that so far the league would continue to be held.

"So far, activities will continue to be carried out and if there is an adjustment, the government will immediately report it to the public", Wiku said in a virtual press conference, Friday, February 4.

Wiku said that currently the government continues to monitor the development of positive cases, both before, during, and after major activities are allowed to be operational.

This, said Wiku, is a form of accountability during the COVID-19 pandemic. Then, Wiku also asked the local government to maintain the organization of Liga 1 according to the health protocol.

"We ask the Bali regional government and league organizers to jointly maintain the implementation of activities that are safe from COVID-19", he said.

It was previously reported that several competing clubs began to report their players who had tested positive for the Coronavirus.

Based on this situation, PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) as the organizer plans to implement a full bubble system. Although it has not been explained in detail, this system is believed to be more stringent than the current semi-bubble system.

PT LIB's Director of Operations, Sudjarno, said the implementation of this system was an improvement from the previous semi-bubble system to suppress the spread of the virus. Sudjarno added that his party would cooperate with residents to monitor this.

"The full bubble, which we will implement in the accommodation (clubs) of each, is expected to be able to implement it", said Sudjarno in a virtual press conference on Wednesday, February 2.

"Including, later LIB will create a scheme in collaboration with local wisdom to maintain the team's accommodations", he continued.
