JAKARTA - Member of Commission VI DPR RI Abdul Hakim Bafagih asked the government to take firm action against the phenomenon of "online" gambling under the guise of buying and selling or "trading".

"It's not 'trading' but 'binary options', and the 'influencers' on social media seem very manipulative. I watched it myself and concluded that this is duping in the name of 'trading'," said Abdul Hakim in his statement, quoted from Antara, Tuesday 1 February.

He explained, "binary options" is a game and closer to gambling because the activity in the application only guesses two possible asset prices, namely whether it will go up or down.

According to him, in "binary options" there is no asset sale and purchase transaction like "trading", but sadly, "binary options" actors use the name of "trading" in their promotions.

"I think the government should strictly prohibit and take action against all 'online' gambling activities. If indeed 'trading' should be legally supervised by the Ministry of Trade through the Commodity Futures Trading Supervisory Agency (CoFTRA)," he said.

In addition, Abdul Hakim also invited various parties, especially "influencers" on social media to educate the public about correct "trading".

According to him, this step is so that the public can distinguish between activities that include "trading" and gambling.
